Our History

My father-in-law E.J. Audi launched his Manhattan furniture business in 1928. He was a true connoisseur of quality, with an enthusiasm for educating the American consumer. Of all the fine lines he carried, E.J. Audi had a special affinity for the construction, finish, and enduring value of Stickley furniture. This passion was absorbed by his son Alfred—my husband—who joined the family business in 1960.

In 1974, Alfred and I took the giant leap from furniture retailing to retailing AND manufacturing fine furniture. Louise Stickley called with an offer to sell us the old Stickley factory, on the grounds that we alone cherished the company’s history and reputation enough to maintain its legendary quality and style.

We added a small showroom right in the old Stickley factory (which is now home to the Stickley Museum and the Fayetteville, NY Library). Avid Stickley collectors traveled long distances to this modest outlet, and we soon realized the potential for opening additional company-owned showrooms in other parts of New York state.

In 1980 a Stickley showroom was set up in Rochester, NY. Showrooms in Albany and White Plains followed just a few years later. Soon we grew beyond New York to include locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Colorado, and Arizona. Meanwhile our showroom in Manhattan continued to thrive as Stickley, Audi & Co. (The names of our showrooms vary slightly depending on location.)

Sadly, Alfred passed away in the fall of 2007, but he left behind a vibrant network of fourteen showrooms, backed by a world-class factory and 1,500 wonderful employees. Our children represent the third generation of Audis in the furniture industry, and they have a deep appreciation for the joint family heritage that continues to nurture what many consider the finest furniture brand in America today.

We invite you to enjoy a leisurely visit to one of our family-owned showrooms. Our professional staff is always available for detailed and authoritative assistance, but you may also feel free to stroll on your own to take in the wide variety of home furnishings offered.

Each showroom has many inspiring room settings, displaying various styles, periods, and colors. Please make yourself comfortable, and don't be afraid to touch, explore, and ask questions.

From single-family home to vacation cabin to towering condominium, our design consultants can help you with friendly, personalized guidance on furniture, fabrics, rugs, lighting, and accent pieces. Your design consultant will gladly make a house call to view your home first-hand and better understand your design needs and style of living.

Once you’ve made your selections, our support staff goes to work–placing your custom order, monitoring its progress, and arranging delivery. Our customer service staff is also available to answer questions and resolve issues after you have received your furniture.
